Oceanities

The mission to Belize aimed to explore Mayan archaeological sites in Cancun and Belize, focusing on documenting elements related to water and marine life within Maya culture.

A key goal was to engage with NGOs dedicated to manatee conservation, fostering The sounds for the Humanities 4 the Ocean.

Showcasing the rich, multi-layered relationship humans have with the ocean, and how sounds can be a powerful medium to convey this connection, it is an experience in the Blue Humanities realm.

It blends science, history, and art, aiming to raise appreciation for the ocean’s role in human history and culture.

Curated by Cristina Brito, Joana Baço, Jaime Silva & Rui Henriques, members of the ERC Synergy Grant 4-OCEANS, that aims to address the impact and significance of marine life for human societies over the two millennia prior to industrialization.
