The Whale in Atouguia – Exibithion

The exhibition ‘The Whale in Atouguia’ was developed by the ERC Synergy Grant 4-OCEANS team “Human History of Marine Life”, in partnership with Peniche Town Council. This is collaborative work with regional and international impact, which demonstrates how research into the extraction of marine resources goes hand in hand with studies into heritage, memories and traditions, and can inform about the consequences of human activities in the oceans. In this location, the team has been analyzing historical data and material remains, and examining how local practices and culture have been made and are made of the relationship between humans and whales, rescuing relationships of contact and empathy between the community, the animal and their shared past.
