Tuna Odyssey: the story of a fishing village and the resource that sustains it

The brand new Tuna Odyssey® is an initiative that includes educational activities, panels and leaflets, publications, and the tuna festival. Using scientific and historical expertise, an educational kit for school has been used for societal engagement, impacting local community and policy making for the safeguard of common (in)tangible heritage. Tuna fishing in Algarve had a major historical impact at a social, political, economic and environmental level, beyond its geographical borders. Based on my PhD, a narrative crossing environmental history, memory and heritage is being built. It also allows outreaching to local fishing communities with a significant impact on preserving and revitalising the memory of a community and on increasing and disseminating knowledge about tuna, a marine protected species.
